When a person has a reputation for telling the truth, people believe him even whan he’s lying; and when a person has a reputation for telling lies, people don’t believe him even when he’s telling the truth. Given the government’s track record when it comes to telling the truth, it absolutely defies logic how so many people still have faith in government.
