There is an email floating around saying a certain professor of Hamline University of Law came up with the following facts:

Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul , Minnesota , points out some interesting facts concerning the November 2008 Presidential election:

Number of States won by: Obama: 19 McCain: 29

Square miles of land won by: Obama: 580,000 McCain: 2,427,000

Population of counties won by:

Obama: 127 million

McCain: 143 million

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by:

Obama: 13.2

McCain: 2.1

Professor Olson adds: “In aggregate, the map of the territory McCain won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country.

Obama territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in low income tenements and living off various forms of government welfare…”

Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the “complacency and apathy” phase of Professor Tyler’s definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation’s population already having reached the “governmental dependency” phase.

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegals and they vote, then we can say goodbye to theUSA in fewer than five years.

If you are in favor of this, then by all means, delete this message.

If you are not, then pass this along to help everyone realize just how much is at stake, knowing that apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom.

Now from reading the top form of this email whether it is factual or not the numbers don’t exactly add up according to the following links below.

The Fall of the Athenian Republic
Claim: Law professor demonstrates that the results of the 2000 presidential election correspond to an 18th century historian’s prediction of conditions accompanying the downfall of democracy.

	MOSTLY FALSE

Example: [Collected via e-mail, December 2000]

At about the time our original 13 states adopted their new constitution, in the year 1787, Alexander Tyler (a Scottish history professor at The University of Edinborough) had this to say about “The Fall of The Athenian Republic” some 2,000 years prior:

“A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.”

“The average age of the worlds greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

From Bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage.”

Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the most recent Presidential election:

Population of counties won by:
Gore = 127 million
Bush = 143 million

Square miles of land won by:
Gore = 580,000
Bush = 2,2427,000

States won by:
Gore = 19
Bush = 29

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by:
Gore = 13.2
Bush = 2.1

Professor Olson adds:

“In aggregate, the map of the territory Bush won was mostly the land owned by the tax-paying citizens of this great country. Gore’s territory encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off government welfare …”

Olson believes the U.S. is now somewhere between the “apathy” and “complacency” phase of Professor Tyler’s definition of democracy with some 40 percent of the nation’s population already having reached the “governmental dependency” phase.

Origins: The item cited above began circulating on the Internet since shortly after the 2000 U.S. presidential election, reappeared briefly after the 2004 presidential election, and saw a strong resurgence (in a modified form which replaced the names “Bush” and “Gore” with “McCain and “Obama”) after the 2008 presidential election. What follows is our analysis of the statements included in the original piece as it initially appeared in 2000, including information helpfully provided to us by Mike Powell of Kennewick, Washington.

    * Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University was not the source of any of the statistics or the text attributed to him above. When contacted via e-mail, Professor Olson confirmed that he had no authorship or involvement in this matter, and as Fayette Citizen editor Dave Hamrick wrote in January 2001:
I really enjoyed one recent message that was circulated extremely widely, at least among conservatives. It gave several interesting “facts” supposedly compiled by statisticians and political scientists about the counties across the nation that voted for George Bush and the ones that voted for Al Gore in the recent election.

      Supposedly, the people in the counties for Bush had more education, more income, ad infinitum, than the counties for Gore.

      I didn’t have time to check them all out, but I was curious about one item in particular… the contention that the murder rate in the Gore counties was about a billion times higher than in the Bush counties.

      This was attributed to a Professor Joseph Olson at the Hamline University School of Law. I never heard of such a university, but went online and found it. And Prof. Olson does exist.

      “Now I’m getting somewhere,” I thought.

      But in response to my e-mail, Olson said the “research” was attributed to him erroneously. He said it came from a Sheriff Jay Printz in Montana. I e-mailed Sheriff Printz, and guess what? He didn’t do the research either, and didn’t remember who had e-mailed it to him.

      In other words, he got the same legend e-mailed to him and passed it on to Olson without checking it out, and when Olson passed it on, someone thought it sounded better if a law professor had done the research, and so it grew.

      Who knows where it originally came from, but it’s just not true.
* The “Alexander Tyler” quoted at the head of the article is actually Lord Woodhouselee, Alexander Fraser Tytler, a Scottish historian/professor who wrote several books in the late 1700s and early 1800s. However, there is no record of a Tytler’s having authored a work entitled The Fall of the Athenian Republic (or The Decline and Fall of the Athenian Republic), and the quoted material attributed to him above is likely apocryphal.

    * The population of the counties and square miles of area won by each Bush and Gore appear to be accurate. They are consistent with the election-result map published by USA Today on 20 November 2000.

    * The number of states won by each candidate is inaccurate. The numbers given (29 and 19) imply that the piece was written before the results of the Florida and New Mexico vote counts were determined. The final tallies were 30 states for Bush and 20 for Gore.

    * The county-by-county murder-rate comparison presented in this piece appears to be flawed. According to the U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ), in the year 2000 the national murder rate was about 5.5 per 100,000
residents. Homicide data by county for 1999 and 2000 was downloaded from the National Archive of Criminal Justice Data (NAJCD), and the counties won by Gore and Bush were identified using the county-by-county election results made available by CNN. (The NACJD provided not only the number of reported murders for each county, but also the population for each.) The average murder rate in the counties won by Gore versus the rate in the counties won by Bush was determined from this data.

      By calculating the murder rate for each county and then taking the averages, we found a murder rate (defined as number of murders per 100,000 residents) of about 5.2 for the average Gore county and 3.3 for the average Bush county. But since people, rather than counties, commit murders, a more appropriate approach was to calculate the total number of murders in the counties won by each candidate and divide that figure by the total number of residents in those counties. This more appropriate method yielded the following average murder rates in counties won by each candidate:

          Gore:   6.5
Bush:   4.1

      There is a distinct difference between these two numbers, but it is nowhere near as large as the quoted e-mail message states (i.e., 13.2 for Gore vs. 2.1 for Bush).

    * The tagline to the piece maintains that “The map of the territory Bush won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of this great country. Gore’s territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off government welfare.” However, according to an analysis of federal spending and electoral votes in the 2000 election prepared by Dean Lacy of Ohio State University:
In the 2000 U.S. presidential election, George W. Bush won most of the states that are net beneficiaries of federal spending programs, while Al Gore won most of the states that are net contributors to federal spending.
The information in that study corresponds to a chart chart prepared by the Tax Foundation for fiscal year 2005 that ranks states according to federal spending per dollar of taxes paid.

“We’re going to have a public option….It’s just a question of when.”

–Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, July 2010.

If you thought the worst of the health care debate was behind us, think again. Earlier this week, 128 liberal Democrats joined California Democrat, Lynn Woolsey on a new bill, H.R. 5808, that would amend the new health care reform bill to create a public option in the new health insurance exchanges. While there are a few minor changes in this new bill, this public-option model is nearly identical to the original government health care plan we fought so hard against and defeated just 6 months ago.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW: This new public option is being presented by Woolsey and her liberal colleagues under the ruse of reducing the deficit. That’s right—they want to grow the public welfare state and have you think it will reduce government spending. Can you say, ludicrous? This ploy of theirs won’t stop as long as Nancy Pelosi is Speaker.

THE DOCTOR’S DIAGNOSIS: America must continue to provide the best health care services while providing affordable access to that care. Although still in its infancy, we are already seeing some of the devastating impacts of the new health care reform law. Companies are already making plans to lay off employees and some businesses are closing as a direct result of that legislation. If the current Majority moves our country further toward a public option, we will end up with a health care system like the NHS, which we know subjects British citizens to long lines, rationing and preventable deaths.

Early in this debate, in response to the insistence by many in the majority that health reform contain a public option, I offered a resolution, H. Res. 615, to require Members of Congress to put their money where their mouth is, and urge colleagues who vote for legislation creating a government-run health care plan to lead by example and enroll themselves in the same public plan. Nearly 4 million Americans from all 50 states contacted my office to offer their support for H. Res 615.

As this process unfolds, I will continue to work to repeal what I firmly believe to be an onerous and unconstitutional health care reform law which passed last March and find market-based solutions to our health care needs.

Sincerely,

JOHN FLEMING, M.D.
Member of Congress

Independence day is much more then a day to drink beer together with your buddies and light off fireworks. It’s a day to proudly fly the American Flag and present your patriotism for this great country.
Independence Day is the nationwide holiday of the United States of America commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July four, 1776, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

At the time of the signing the US consisted of 13 colonies beneath the rule of England’s King George III. There was growing unrest in the colonies concerning the taxes that had to be paid to England. This was commonly known as “Taxation without Representation” as the colonists did not have any representation within the English Parliament and had no say in what went on. Because the unrest grew within the colonies, King George sent extra troops to help control any rebellion. In 1774 the 13 colonies sent delegates to Philadelphia Pennsylvania to form the First Continental Congress. The delegates had been unhappy with England, however were not but able to declare war.
In April 1775 as the King’s troops attacked on Concord Massachusetts Paul Revere would sound the alarm that “The British are coming, the British are coming” as he rode his horse via the late night streets.
The battle of Concord and its “shot heard around the world” would mark the unofficial start of the colonies conflict for Independence. To rejoice the newly fashioned continental army George Washington flew a brand new flag referred to as Grand Union or it was also know as Continental Colors.
The next spring the colonies once more dispatched delegates to the Second Continental Congress. For nearly a year the congress tried to work out its differences with England, once more with out formally declaring war.
By June 1776 their efforts had turned out to be hopeless and a committee was formed to compose a formal declaration of independence. Headed by Thomas Jefferson, the committee included John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Robert R. Livingston and Roger Sherman. Thomas Jefferson was chosen to put in writing the original draft which was offered to the congress on June 28. After various changes a vote was taken late within the afternoon of July 4th. Of the thirteen colonies, 9 voted in favor of the Declaration, 2 – Pennsylvania and South Carolina voted No, Delaware undecided and New York abstained.
To make it official John Hancock, President of the Continental Congress, signed the Declaration of Independence. It is stated that John Hancock signed his name “with an important flourish” so “King George can read that without spectacles!”
The next day copies of the Declaration have been distributed. The original newspaper to print the Declaration was the Pennsylvania Evening Post on July 6, 1776. On July 8th the Declaration had its first public reading in Philadelphia’s Independence Square. Twice that day the Declaration was read to cheering crowds and pealing church bells. Even the bell in Independence Corridor was rung. The “Province Bell” would later be renamed “Liberty Bell” after its inscription which reads:
Proclaim LIBERTY throughout all the Land unto all the Inhabitants thereof Lev. XXV X
By Order of the ASSEMBLY of the Province of PENSYLVANIA for the State House in Philad
Pass and Stow
Philad
MDCCLIII
This inscription originates from Leviticus 25:10

On June 14th 1777 Congress adopted a new flag that was designed by George Washington now affectionately known as the Betsy Ross which was the first official American Flag.

And though the signing of the Declaration was not accomplished till August, the 4th of July has been accepted as the official anniversary of United States independence. The first Independence Day celebration passed off the next year – July four 1777. By the early 1800s the traditions of parades, picnics, and fireworks had been established as the best way to have fun America’s birthday. Most importantly, People everywhere in the country fly the American Flag to show their patriotism.

Sassy Scrubs Company Owner, Karen Bradley, explains “We have participated in the Landstuhl Hospital Care Project for quite some time now, and due to suggestions from this service group, can determine what the real needs are for our service members.” To date, this has meant sending donations of hospital scrubs tops for first response medics; medical scrub pants for sick patients and hospital doctors and nurses; and interesting surgical caps worn by hospital doctors and medics in the field. Another regular desire which has been met by the scrubs manufacturer in the past is patriotic themed med bags, for transfer of each patient’s personal goods, records, and medications as they are transported from station to station. To enliven moods at Christmastime, Sassy Scrubs will be sending Christmas Stockings, which have been requested, to the servicemen and women who’ll be treated in the overseas hospitals at Christmastime.

Because the medical uniform company custom makes all the garments they produce, Sassy Scrubs is uniquely prepared to focus on a particular need to help United States military members. “We keep apprised of the needs as they are posted”, states Bradley, “and assist when we can help work on a need.” Sassy Scrubs has committed to continuing their program of donations to support US service members for as long as there are American troops abroad and for as long as there is a need.

There is good reason the video below is taking the internet by storm, although it’s frustrating to watch. It clearly shows the spreading unemployment rate in a manner that resembles the spreading of a plague. Sadly, this economic plague will alter a community and destroy lives as if it was a virus attacking the body.

Both your political leanings and mine are irrelevant as both of us have been utterly betrayed by temporarily elected (and in some cases appointed) political hacks. The result of this naked abuse of power is the suffering of its people. Our current crop of “leaders” could possibly be the most corrupt and the most devious in modern if not all of our nation’s history.

Nothing is being done to spur sustainable economic growth. In fact, the exact opposite is true. No wonder many believe that the government is destroying the greatest society ever created…on purpose! When you witness the layers of new bureaucracy, burdensome taxes, and unfunded entitlement programs, it is hard to conclude anything else.

Such actions retard economic growth and will discourage would be entrepreneurs. An economist is not needed to understand this. Businesses and industries that provide us with the most comfortable lifestyles on the planet, institutions that should be embraced, are vilified as if they are single entities not comprised of real American men and women. It’s sad to see it unfold in such a manner and is extremely stressful for many a business person.

For your part, you are to tow the line, put your nose to the grind stone, and try as you might to create a sustainable living. All you can do is continue to sell. Sell your products, sell your services, and most importantly sell yourself as hard as you can and as creatively as you can. For example, with regard to our office supplies website, we’re concentrating on a niche that supports breast cancer patients. Pink office supplies are still under the larger umbrella of our core business but it allows us a new focus. Find a similar area in your business and do the same. Ignore the dark clouds and continue to move forward if only an inch at a time. Anything less could mean your demise.

Believe in yourself for now may be the time to invest in your business or your craft. Perhaps now the window has opened just enough to leap frog your more passive competition. This is not an easy maneuver. It takes nerves of steel to press when others are peeling back. However, it is this exact contrarian posture that could be your saving grace. To say it another way, when they zig, you must zag. Seriously explore new market opportunities be it on the internet or value added areas. We did just this exact thing when we started selling business office supplies exclusively online as a means to protect our business form the destruction left behind when hurricane Katrina passed through our area. The economic climate that exists today is similar to what we experienced in New Orleans in 2005. Only now the devastation is not physical structures but solely economical. But just as the businesses in New Orleans found a way to survive during extremely difficult times, so too must you. Find your motivation and stay positive it will sustain you. And, have faith in America and its people. You and the rest of your American brethren are ultimately stronger than the political goons who temporarily hold office.

Enlarge your screen (there is no sound but the point is well made)

The POW/MIA flag is an American icon that has great depth in meaning. As you drive down the street and see somebody properly displaying the black and white flag, think about what it truly represents. Courageous women and men, heroes, who both risked their stay or lost their lives to guard our freedoms we get pleasure from in America. Most of us could not begin to understand what it might have been wish to either be lacking in action, or a prisoner of war.

An attention-grabbing truth in regards to the POW/MIA flag is that it’s not trademarked. Which implies anyone can reproduce it. In 1970, Annin & Co. designed and manufactured the POW/MIA flag. They determined to be further generous, so that they didn’t copywrite or trademark the design, thus permitting any flag producer the power to make and promote the highly reverenced design.

The POW/MIA flag has several flag show guidelines distinctive to it. Here are among the details of POW/MIA flag etiquette and guidelines of show:

1) When flying the POW/MIA flag on the identical pole as the outdoor American flag, it should be the identical dimension or one dimension smaller than the American flag and be flown simply beneath the Nationwide Colors.

2) When the POW/MIA flag is to be displayed as a part of a group of flagpoles, it might either be displayed by itself flagpole or once more beneath the U.S. flag. A state flag may be displayed on its own on the second flagpole, to the precise of the American and POW flags as you face the constructing and flagpoles.

3) On Half Workers days: Peace Officers Memorial Day (May fifteenth), Memorial Day (the final Monday in Could – from sunrise till midday), Patriot Day (September 11th), Pearl Harbor Memorial Day (December seventh), and on different days as directed by the President of the United States – the POW/MIA also needs to be lowered to half staff along with the Nationwide Colors.

4) POW/MIA Flag Recognition Day is observed on the Third Friday of every September. On POW/MIA Remembrance Day, the POW/MIA flag should not be lowered to half workers, but ought to be flown (especially over the next areas) at full staff together with the U.S. flag: the Capitol and the White House in Washington, DC, the Korean Warfare and Vietnam Veterans Conflict Memorials, each National Cemetery, any building containing the official offices of the Secretary of State, the workplaces of the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, the places of work of the Director of the Selective Service System, each main military installation, every VA Medical Heart, and each Post Office.

Well darlings,

Whoa up, now! This last week in politics has been higher than watching one of these loveable previous Laurel and Hardy films, hasn’t it? That’s another fine mess you’ve got got us into, Tony! And another, and another…

In education, after eight years and twelve White Papers that have had faculties reeling from one disaster when another, it looks like we have a tendency to’re going right back to where we started. I do hope everyone enjoyed that rather bumpy trip round the block. Fun, wasn’t it? Education, education, education? It actually has been!

The ban on smoking rules has everyone mystified. Neither those for or against a ban appear happy with the result, and nobody seems to be ready to clarify the foundations clearly. Do the miscroscopic bowls of heavily salted peanuts left nonchalantly on bars, the ones that are very there to entice you to have a free nibble to develop your thirst any, do they qualify as food? They are free to be taken and don’t seem to be charged for or served, so how will the law stand on these? And how about the miscroscopic packs of Cheddars, or perhaps crisps, those who come back sealed in airtight baggage and so can not be contaminated – are they food in the sense of the law? Do they create the ban compulsory if they are displayed, or nibbled? Can all licensed B & Bs have to stop serving breakfasts to stay among the law if they need a multi-purpose room and want to allow smoking? Their licensing rules are very kind of like those of a pub landlord and their rights of refusal are precisely the identical – thus how do they stand? Ask any 2 politicians any of these queries and, if you ought to be lucky enough to urge a straight answer, they will probably provide you 2 totally different interpretations of the identical rule.

In Ireland many landlords are finding ways around their total ban in a desperate try to save their businesses. The licensed premises, bars and restaurants, remain no smoking areas according to the letter of the law – however outside, in the gardens and within the automotive parks, numerous lean-tos, conservatories, garden shed kind erections, and even a few old busses have now been left simply accessible for the smoker to use. They’re not designated smoking areas, no-one is told or encouraged to use them, and therefore the no smoking law is not being broken as they are doing not represent a half of the licensed premises. It’s all a nod and a wink job. The actual fact that alcoholic drinking is currently going down off of the licensed premises, and may be breaking another law, seems to be of very little consequence – nobody appears to be bothered. Will such a “get out” be received here with equally blind and sympathetic eyes? Once more, no one looks to know.

Such a hotch-potch was this law turning into that Tony Blair seemed to clean his hands of it entirely; content in leaving Jack Straw to attempt and type it all out. Little marvel the result has been the last straw in absurdity!

That’s to mention, it had been the last straw in absurdity until once additional our Tony started wagging his forefinger! Groan, and double-groan! Here we tend to go again! In contrast to Iraq, where Saddam Hussein was telling the truth and also the investigators failed to seek out any proof of weapons of mass destruction either before or once the war, Iran is brazenly going nuclear, which coupled with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s outright declaration that Israel ought to be ”wiped off the map” has had many western politicians reeling and wondering what to do regarding it. It’s becoming usually accepted that no matter the UN could say, and any sanctions that it could impose, can hardly do much to unravel this quick escalating threat to world peace.

I am positive now around we have a tendency to don’t would like intelligence reports (for what use they’re!), or any dossiers – sexed up or not – to inform us what is occurring here. Iran, with all that heat and sun in the summer, and sitting on all that oil for the winter and the uninteresting periods, is one in all the last places on earth where a nuclear power station would be genuinely needed. Like North Korea (another tinderbox), Iran has bided its time and waited until the West had played its hand. The war on Iraq has left us with a costly and a no-end-in-sight disaster – a weeping sore that will have us busy there for years. Everybody with more than two brain cells making an attempt to mate is aware of that there’s no appetite left in either the UK or in America to become embroiled in nonetheless another war. And with both Bush and Blair having lost favour and credibility over the Iraq fiasco, for them to be in a position to take their countries into battle on a brand new front is terribly abundant an improbability.

Thus, with our hand played out like the best premature ejaculation the planet has ever known – we will only wait, embarrassed, to work out how the game can finally end. My money is on a surprise by Israel, should the Iranians progress too far with their plans – which surprise may be another biggest thing the world has ever known! However then that is life is not it? If you suffer from PE then it can’t be that uncommon for someone else to do the banging, can it? Shock and Awe? More like fed-up and sore!

Talking of banging: Yank research at Baltimore’s John Hopkins University has found that Viagra is good for the guts and could stop heart attacks by counteracting the effect of adrenaline, thereby putting “a brake” on the organ ought to it try to figure too hard. It is also been steered that: “We tend to may not be too so much off from taking Viagra one-a-day instead of aspirin.” That’ll definitely extend the stiff higher lip a small amount over here, won’t it?

I find this beneficial revelation to be quite strange because it comes solely days when different bodies are calling for the govt to force the makers to feature warnings to the labels of Viagra (and other impotence medicine) telling users that individuals have gone blind through using the drug. Do you think that it would possibly be some kind of a governmental wheeze to keep the folks happy, however in the dark? Shock and Awe? Who said that? Who’s there? Who is it? Place the ruddy lightweight on – I’ve just fallen over a broom! At least, I suppose it was a broom…

The facts I’ve found:
Non-arteritic ischemic optic neuropathy, a loss of vision that’s frequently irreversible, is one amongst the foremost common causes of sudden blindness (especially in older people) with an estimated 1,000 to six,000 cases a year occurring in America. (I can not find any UK figures for it.) Individuals principally in danger are those with diabetes and / or heart disease which, as they are also 2 of the leading causes of impotence, build it exhausting to prove that the tablets are literally to blame.

And finally, I don’t like what I am seeing at the Beeb and I bet I am not alone. 10 foreign language services, with the loss of additional than 200 jobs, are to be axed from the BBC World Service so as to fund a brand new £19million Arabic TV channel that will be broadcast across the Middle East in competition with al-Jazeera. And in additional value-cutting, job losses are soon to be announced within the news gathering department.

Whilst this new TV channel is clearly a smart idea, it ought to not be at the expense of the opposite services. The broadcasts to be sacrificed are in Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Greek, Hungarian, Kazakh, Polish, Slovak, Slovene and Thai as a result of, we’re told, “they need lost their relevance since the end of the Cold War.” Really? Well, up until now we’ve all known that, way from its ideals of being free from each political and commercial influence and answerable only to its viewers and listeners, the World Service of the BBC was basically government propaganda led. But, nobody before currently has ever had the balls to return out to say that quite therefore plainly! As this new TV channel, a comprehensible portal for propaganda, is possible to have been the concept of the govt. and not that of the money-strapped Beeb, I feel that they ought to totally fund it as an “extra”; not as an “instead of”.

The facts I’ve found:
The BBC motto is: Nation Shall Speak Peace Unto Nation. But is that currently solely when it is paid to try and do therefore by the government?

The BBC World Service HQ is located at Bush House, a central London building that’s apparently not named once any Yankee President. Are we have a tendency to fully sure of that? You may have imagined that a company that forced Top Cat to become Boss Cat to avoid confusion with a mere feline food product when it screened the cartoon moggie over here would have been sensitive enough to vary the name of their Worldwide Services HQ building the day the first Bush popped up as a President, mightn’t you?

Above the most Aldwych entrance you’ll be able to see two imposing figures which represent England and America and between them they hold the torch of human progress on top of that is the motto “To the friendship of English speaking peoples”. A little inappropriate for the employment of the building, isn’t it? What regarding the friendship of non-English speaking peoples? Don’t they matter?

The BBC Worldwide Service is funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and therefore the grant for 2005/six is £239million. Currently that is what I decision impartiality! But I guess that if, because it appears to me lately, the BBC is to all or any effects completely to control to the pleasure of Blair and Bush then it’s only right that they must pay for their initials to be within the corporation’s name!

People, simply keep your eyes on that BBC crest. The day that one of those eagles is moved higher than the lion, I’m emigrating!

See you all next week…

Though, not a replacement for the US Flag… but just a further explicative, some American patriots are choosing to soar the Gadsden Flag. It’s a yellow flag with a twisting rattlesnake and the rebellious “Don’t Tread on Me” motto.
The Gadsden Flag, named after Colonel Christopher Gadsden of South Carolina came about in 1776. It’s inspiration represented a warning from the colonists to the British. The record of the Gadsden flag is entwined with one of American history’s most electrifying personalities, Ben Franklin.
Benjamin Franklin is legendary, or infamous, for his sense of humor. In 1751, he wrote an editorial in his Pennsylvania Gazette suggesting that, as a way to give appreciation to the Brits for their policy of sending convicted felons to America, American colonists should send rattlesnakes to England. What a guy! In 1754, Franklin drew and published the first known political cartoon in an American paper. It was the drawing of a snake cut into eight sections. Each piece of the snake represented the eight individual colonies and the curves of the snake suggested the coastline of America. New England was the head of the snake, South Carolina was at the tail. Written underneath the snake were the unmistakably bold words “Join, or Die.” This had nothing to do with independence from Britain. It was a petition for unity in protecting the colonies during the French and Indian Conflict. Amusingly enough, the superstition of the generation was a snake that had been cut into pieces could come back to life if you united the sections together prior to nightfall. The snake image was reprinted all over the colonies. Dozens of journalists from Massachusetts to South Carolina ran Franklin’s sketch or some rendition of it. For instance, the Boston Gazette re-drew the snake with the words “Unite and Conquer” coming out of its mouth. Franklin’s snake slithered its way into American society as an initial representation of liberty.
In 1765, The British sought after additional money from the colonies. The snake emblem was paramount when Americans were uniting against the Stamp Act. Franklin’s snake continued to be used as a symbol of American unity and American independence. For example, in 1774, Paul Revere added it to the masthead of The Massachusetts Spy and showed the snake combating a British dragon.
By 1775, the snake icon was appearing all over the colonies, on banners and flags, on uniform buttons, even on paper currency. The snake emblem changed over the past few years. It was usually shown as an American timber rattlesnake. Historically, we don’t know for certain where, when, or by whom the twisting rattlesnake was initially used with the caution “Don’t Tread on Me”. However, in 1775 there was an attention-grabbing article printed in the Pennsylvania Journal by “An American Guesser” that spoke of the “Don’t Tread on Me Motto”.
Here’s the article in part:
”I observed on one of the drums belonging to the marines now raising, there was painted a Rattle-Snake, with this modest motto under it, ‘Don’t tread on me.’ As I know it is the custom to have some device on the arms of every country, I supposed this may have been intended for the arms of America.” This anonymous writer, having “nothing to do with public affairs” and “in order to divert an idle hour,” speculated on why a snake might be chosen as a symbol for America. First, it occurred to him that “the Rattle-Snake is found in no other quarter of the world besides America.” The rattlesnake also has sharp eyes, and “may therefore be esteemed an emblem of vigilance.” Furthermore, she never begins an attack, nor, when once engaged, ever surrenders: She is therefore an emblem of magnanimity and true courage… she never wounds ’till she has generously given notice, even to her enemy, and cautioned him against the danger of treading on her. I confess I was wholly at a loss what to make of the rattles, ’till I went back and counted them and found them just thirteen, exactly the number of the Colonies united in America; and I recollected too that this was the only part of the Snake which increased in numbers. Tis curious and amazing to observe how distinct and independent of each other the rattles of this animal are, and yet how firmly they are united together, so as never to be separated but by breaking them to pieces. One of those rattles singly, is incapable of producing sound, but the ringing of thirteen together, is sufficient to alarm the boldest man living.”
Most scholars agree that this “American Guesser” was Benjamin Franklin.
How does all this correlate to today? Well, just as Franklin alluded to, the rattlesnake never begins the assault but will not back down after provoked. As you drive around and see more and more Gadsden flags hoisted atop flag poles and being worn on shirts and stickers on cars, realize that a lot of Americans feel their back is against the wall and the only thing left to do is fight for our founding liberties. This is not a physical battle as it was in the 1700’s but a political war against higher taxes, freedom limitations and mandatory superfluous laws and policies. This figurative snake will absolutely “alarm the boldest man living”.
