Government Health Care Socialism or Capitalism?

This post might be a little late seeing the impending doom for its success on the news. But I would like to bring up two points of view:

  1. Is Universal Health Care strictly socialist?
  2. Does Universal Health Care open up another competitor to the health care industry?

We will look at the first point:

A lot of people are saying the mere thought of involving the government in health care is one more step to open the government up for total control. This will just be the first step, some fear the next step will be determining all of our wages for all services. Taking control out of the businesses hands (sounds like the USSR anyone?).

Why should we be limited to what hospitals they recommend? Wait a minute, President Obama strictly said it will not affect our current health care coverage. He said our current coverage will continue as usual. This will only affect the people who currently don’t have or can’t afford to have health coverage. Plus the current governing party wants to tax the benefits that current people that are covered receive. Well that right there shows that our current health care will not remain as is (remember when the Democrats hammered Mc Cain for being honest when he came upfront with this proposal?).

In theory it seems a wonderful idea to insure everybody, but this will come at the expense of double taxing the people who currently have health coverage.

The second proposal is will this actually help to lower health care costs?

Some people are suggesting that the benefit of introducing the government into the health care equation is it will help lower costs. How is this possible? Here is a couple of things to look at:

  • The health care system is basically a monopoly with all the different health care companies working together, so there is no real competition.
  • Putting the government into the equation includes a 2nd monopoly, so basically there will be two monopolies going head to head which in theory should lower the cost of health care providers.

According to President Obama you will have a choice to continue your current health care coverage or join the government health care plan. Will that mean if you continue your current health care you won’t have to pay anything to the government health care? That would be the only way to open true competition between the two.

I need help with this issue so all comments will be appreciated.
