US Senate to keep proposals for expansion of the Federal Trade Commission

FTC Seeks Broad New Powers — NPA topics Call to treat

Here’s what the  advocates can do regarding the proposed amendment to the Restoring American Financial Stability Act (S.3217)Published Thursday, April 29, 2010 7:00 amOn April 22, 2010, the Natural Products Association (NPA) and 40 other national trade associations sent a letter urging the US Senate to wait on  proposals for  growing of  the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) powers out of its last debates over financial regulatory reform. The expansions being discussed could hurt the fitness industry on the way companies in the fitness industry do business.

NPA is threating the fitness industry supporters  to speak out on this very important issue by contplaying their senators, urging them to focus on strengthening the stability of the country’s economy, not control fitness that had zero to do with the  financial productivity . At a time when businesses are struggling to both survive and create new jobs, adding taxing new rules  and ceding more authority over business to the FTC is  exactly what the economy  does not need. Immediate action is required, as the Senate may take action on the “Restoring American Financial Stability Act” at any moment.

Should these additional powers be precondition to the FTC, these changes could be expected:

  • The FTC will have authority to  make their own advertising that are just not right with what is allowed under DSHEA and the FDA
  • The FTC acting as a legislative body, creating ” business plans ” for industries like the natural products industry in areas in which it has no expertness
  • The FTC levying fines against the fitness experts for practices it deems illegal without allowing the business to make any changes
  • The FTC levying fines against companies for “aiding and abetting” wrongdoing even when the companies did not know a intrusion was occurring
  • The FTC devising, approving, and using force with virtually no oversight Concerned fitness industry advocates can visit the Advocacy area on the NPA website (www.NPAInfo.org) and stand up for your self and send a message to their senators , urging them to OPPOSE the FTC amendment.
